Chapter 4 Connected Educator

In chapter four of the connected educator, it discusses the importance of building a collaborative culture.  When people learn how to collaborate with each other, it cultivates learning.  Relationships are equally as important to create a learning culture.  Being positive and striving to grow relationships will help to maintain a stronger culture and create more room for further collaboration.  In my future career as an event coordinator, building relationships is a great way to maintain personal growth within the industry.  Maintaining relationships with clients as well as co-workers is important because it will only help to grow an individuals success as an event coordinator.  This may lead to future relationships being built because you are growing your network with others.

Establishing trust between co-workers and clients can help to create a collaborative culture.  Trusting that co-workers will do their job correctly and efficiently, give honest feedback and help to share the duties of putting an event together.  The clients should be able to trust the event coordinator to execute the event the way that it is supposed to be executed.  There are always going to be hiccups at events big and small, however, the event coordinator is responsible for making sure that virtually no one even notices when things may not go as planned.

Another aspect discussed in this chapter is fostering collegiality, which is a shared belief that none of us is as good or smart as all of us.  This can be obtained through being transparent and genuine to one another.  Face to face interaction is one of the key aspects to achieving collegiality.  Event coordinators need to be able to have face to face conversations in order to create this trust between clients.  Not everything should be done through phone calls and emails.  It's important to book appointments with clients to get a real idea of their vision, etc.  In events it is definitely important to work together as a team to make everything come together for the event.

  1. Hey Cara, great summary on this chapter. I agree that when people collaborate with each other it improves learning. In the medical field it is very important to have relationships with patients and co-workers. Collaborating with others helps everyone grow and learn.
